1. Introduction
The build process is split into two parts:
- Unit assembly
- Printer setup assembly
Part 2 is different depending on what printer setup you choose. Each printer setup requires additional hardware and printed parts. The additional printed parts can be downloaded for free on my Printables Profile. Hardware list is found on the next page, 2. Part list.
Reliability
⚠️IMPORTANT! To ensure proper function of the Rewindr, please consider the following steps:
- Print quality. Good print quality is key! Print defects can significantly impact performance. Inspect parts before assembly and remove stringing.
-
Lubrication. Reduces friction in the mechanism and can significantly improve performance.
❯ Use a lubricant suitable for plastic, like silicone or PTFE based. Add the lubricant to the gear teeth.
-
Springs. Added spring are optional, but can help increase the rewind-strength if you're experiencing higher friction in the mechanism.
❯ Spring specifications can be found in the next step. -
Low friction bearings. Avoid heavy-greased and rubber-sealed bearings. If necessary, consider relubricating bearings with a lighter machine oil.
❯ 685 bearings have less friction than 686 bearings, which are also compatible with parts.
Versions
All parts are marked with a version number. The version number helps you determine if parts parts are compatible with each other, and if there is a new version. Version info and compatibility can be found on the page Version History.
