Trouble Shooting Guide

Most common issues & fixes:

Spool stuck in top position

This can happen if there is too much resistance in the mechanism. Extra resistance can come from two different sources: Spool-to-roller contact and bearing/mechanism friction.

Reduce resistance from Spool-to-roller contact (most common fix)

  • Make sure to sand down any seams or bumps on the roller surface (Back-roller and Front-roller-sleeve). These tend to catch on the spools, making them stuck during filament swaps.
  • The Rewindr supports cardboard spools, but deformations in the cardboard can lead to extra resistance during rewind. Consider adding printed spool adapters to your cardboard spools if you are facing this problem.
❗If you are running cardboard Spool-adapters, make sure to sand down the printed seam.

Reduce friction from internal mechanism

  • Find cause of friction. Turn the mechanism manually by hand to check for resistance. If you can feel a large amount of resistance, try to find the root cause. Remove parts of the mechanism to see if the resistance still remain (test the movement of the Arm-assembly, Spur-gear and Front-roller separately).
  • Make sure there are no print-defects around the mechanism's gear teeth, potentially causing extra friction.

Increase rewind strength

  • Attach extension springs between R-Shell and Lever-gear. This can compensate for any extra friction in the system (do this after trying the things above
Gears skipping

This problem is more common with older versions. Gears skipped when the Lever-gear and Shells flexed under heavy load. This should be fixed now with later versions. If you are still experiencing problems, improve stiffness by increasing the amount of perimeters for the Lever-gear.

MMU motor skipping

This can be solved by improving the filament path. Using PTFE-tubes with a larger inner diameter (3 mm ID) can dramatically reduce friction. A shorter filament path can help as well. Springs can help to increase rewind strength, but these also put more strain on the MMU-motor. Don't use springs that are too strong.

Spools fallking off

This is less common in the newest version (the problem should be fixed). If you are still experiencing issues with the latest version, please contact me.
